The no-limit sitting experience in an oxymoron state

Chair design by Terje Ekstrøm, 1984

Re-dressed by Ingrid Bredholt, 2020

Chair Measurement:
W 72 cm x D 70 cm x H 79 cm. Seat height 43 cm

Approx Weight:
20 kg

This Ekstrem™ is quite extreme with matching sneakers, but not as heavy as it looks. It has an open framework consisting of two identical mirror-facing steel frames covered in foam, manually covered in concrete plaster. The concrete cast look on the soft chair and sneakers leave the objects in an oxymoron state.

CONCRETE - 100% concrete plaster. Inner: 100% foam. Steel frame.

Terje Ekstrøm

Industrial designer Terje Ekstrøm had one foot in crafts and the other in industry. He trained as a cabinet maker and upholsterer before studying interior and furniture design at the National College of Art and Design in Oslo, Norway. Ekstrøm’s work contributed to a new vitality and independence to the Norwegian design scene of the 70s and 80s, at a time of significant cultural and social change. Ekstrøm represented a new generation of designers who challenged the ideas of Scandinavian design. Although he is today seen as one of Norway’s first postmodern designers, Ekstrøm’s original output and its mediation is also connected to the ideals of the modern movement and later pop culture.
